Presented by

Suzette Fagan, PhD, LCSW
This workshop examines how mental health clinicians can design and deliver telehealth services through an equity-driven lens that addresses structural barriers to care while maintaining ethical and clinical integrity. Participants will explore the distinction between service availability and true access, with attention to the ways transportation, scheduling, stigma, cultural mismatch, and insurance limitations disproportionately impact marginalized populations.
The presentation will review evidence-informed principles for using telehealth as an intervention to improve engagement, reduce no-show rates, and support continuity of care. Attendees will learn how community-embedded access points, such as schools, faith-adjacent spaces, and trusted community organizations, can ethically support client engagement without creating dual-relationship concerns.
Clinical case examples will illustrate culturally responsive, client-centered approaches to integrating spirituality when clinically appropriate and client-led, while maintaining professional boundaries and documentation standards. The workshop emphasizes practical strategies clinicians can apply across settings to enhance access, engagement, and outcomes for underserved populations.
Learning Objectives
As a result of attending this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify structural and systemic barriers that limit equitable access to mental health services in traditional and telehealth settings.
- Differentiate between service availability and true access within distance mental health service delivery.
- Apply equity-driven principles to the design and delivery of telehealth services while maintaining ethical and professional standards.
